Do Surplus Lines Insurance Companies participate in the MWUA?

No. Surplus Lines Insurance Companies, also referred to as “Non-admitted Companies” do not participate in the MWUA, however, insurance placed with a non-admitted company is subject to a non-admitted policy fee. This fee is paid by the policyholder and collected by a licensed producer and remitted to the MWUA.

What geographical area does the MWUA cover?

The six southern most counties in Mississippi are serviced by the MWUA. These counties are Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Stone and George, and are referred to as the “Coastal Counties”.

Who must report to the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association (MWUA)?

Insurance companies authorized to write and engaged in writing property insurance on a direct admitted basis within the State of Mississippi, also referred to as “Admitted Carriers”.

If my company was licensed in Mississippi this year, do I have to file an insurer’s report of premium?

A company is not required to participate in the year it is admitted, therefor if a company is admitted in 2014; it would report its 2015 premium for use in determining its 2016 participation.
